What was your first job?
Believe
it or not I cleaned rooms in a hotel when I was 14years old for £1.50
an hour. I was brought up to believe if I wanted something
bad enough then I had to save for it and being the youngest of
10 children I was fed up of having 'cast-offs'. By
the time things were handed down to me there really wasn't
much left!
What is it you like best about what you do?
I
love talking to people which makes Communications a great place
to be. I am completely passionate about what I believe
in and believe that communication has to be open and honest which
is why it is a key ingredient for any successful company.
What don't you enjoy?
Hmmmm…it's
a tough one! I don't enjoy conflict at all so I'm
always the peacemaker and the first one to apologise even when
it's not my fault! However whilst I don't enjoy it
I have learned to handle it well…and make friends on the
way.
What preconceptions did you have about contact centre
work (and were they true)? Someone once told
me that if I worked in a contact centre I would have to put
my hand up every time I wanted to go to the toilet, and I'm
pleased to say it wasn't true. They really are
a 'great place to work' you put in the hard work
and you get great benefits, and the social life is second to
none.
Briefly describe a typical day? Cup
of de-caff first thing, check my diary for that day, make sure
I haven't missed any prep work for meetings. Say
my hellos as I walk around the department, I always make sure
I'm visible; some people find it easier to gage you in
conversation rather than spend 20minutes thinking on the content
of an email.
What skills have you brought to your new job?
I'm
great at networking, people I've met through day to day
activities both inside and outside of work. My organisation
skills are good I've learnt they have to be and not being
afraid to challenge people if I don't necessarily agree
with something.
Why would you recommend working in a contact centre
to friends/relations?
Contact Centres aren't just jobs they allow people to build
careers if they want them. They offer so much variety with numerous
departments I've worked here for 13 years and have moved
around continuously gaining new skills and experience with each
move.
If you take one thing with you on a desert island
what would it be?
Just one thing…I couldn't choose between either
one of my children for obvious reasons so I would have to take
both, Bradley because at six he would make me laugh and Matthew
at 13 is extremely caring and loving…but I would leave
my husband at home!
What's your guilty pleasure?
I love a good curry and a bottle (or two) of wine, it's
simple yet effective, sheer heaven!
If you were an animal, what would you be?
If
I had to choose for myself then I would be a koala – they
look like teddy bears, and everyone wants one! However if
it were to be chosen for me then a Queen bee I've just been
told, because I am highly organised and I like to be in control.
