Lee Harvey, Service Manager in Newport Service Centre tells us why he entered the Edinburgh Marathon
When I mentioned to my next door neighbour a short while ago that I fancied maybe running a full marathon, no one was more surprised than me when he popped over and told me he’d entered us both into the Edinburgh Marathon!!
I have always been pretty sporty but gave up due to various injuries and nowadays spend more time coaching kid’s football than actually participating.
I guess turning 40 also made me think a bit, a case of its now or never, let’s do it while my legs are still able to carry me 26 miles! So after doing the Cardiff half marathon last year, I got the bug and thought why not run a full one.
So as well as proving to myself, I can do this; it seemed like a good opportunity to raise some money for our chosen charity The British Heart Foundation. So to everyone that I work with, or have worked with, please dig deep and support this great cause. If you work in Newport, I have a sponsor sheet on my desk, just pop up and see me on the top floor. Or you can donate online on my Just Giving site. (See below for link)
As for my neighbour, he’s my running partner on the day, although we rarely get to run together at the moment due to work, the big day on the 23 May will be the first time we have run together for a while.
I’m now running around 50 miles a week usually 20 miles on a weekend day and 3 x 10 mile runs in the week. I’m now looking forward to the big day where I hope to be able to report back that I finished it in less than 4 hours. So watch this space!
