Lunch Break Top 5

Favourite places to grab a bite to eat

Lunch Break Top 5

We asked the staff at Black Horse Finance in Cardiff's City Centre to name their favourite places to grab a bite to eat. The results were as follows:

5) Greggs (Many, many branches) - As much as you might hope that your colleagues would display a little taste and class in choosing their favourite lunch provider, this mass market pasty emporium elbowed its way into the chart in fifth place.

4) The Vegetarian Food Studio (Penarth Road, Grangetown) - This top vegetarian selection provides wholesome and tasty snacks and full meals with an Asian twist at very affordable prices.

3) Trade Street Café (Trade Street, off Penarth Road) - Freshly made sandwiches, baguettes, bagels and salads in cool surroundings. A classy place to snack out at break times.

2) O'Neills (Trinity Street) - Sadly this pub was gutted by fire back in June, but still managed to get plenty of votes for its "great atmosphere" and good, affordable food. The burgers in particular garnered much praise from respondents, many of whom can't wait for the pub to re-open. In the mean time the bigger O'Neills on St Mary Street is still open for business and serving a very similar menu.

1) Central Café-The resounding winner, by dozens of votes, was this plucky little kiosk, near Central Station. It received rave reviews for its bacon baguettes (the "best in the world", apparently), its "ace jacket potatoes", and "fantastic hot dogs".

A special mention was also given to several nearby favourites for an evening meal, including Woods Brasserie and The Spice Merchant (both Stuart Street, Cardiff Bay), Café Rouge (Mermaid Quay, Cardiff Bay), Zizzi's (High Street, City Centre), and Nando's (The Brewery Quarter).
