Alex Rockefeller: The William Hughes Memorial

Alex Rockefeller graduated from Loughborough University in 2021 where he’d completed an MSc Finance Degree. He’s now on the Financial Services Graduate Programme on his first placement with Hodge Bank as a Graduate Business Analyst.

In 2018, Alex and was faced with an extremely difficult and upsetting situation after a close friend, William Hughes, sadly took his own life.

As a way of remembering his friend and raising awareness of mental health, Alex and his friends have been organising a Charity Golf Tournament, The William Hughes Memorial, which is taking place on 1st July 2022 at Swansea Bay Golf Club.

Alex explains: “This event has been organised as a collective effort between the friends and family of William Hughes, someone very dear to us who sadly took his own life in July 2018.

As well as being a day dedicated to remembering William, our aim is to raise awareness of mental health issues, particularly among young people and raise some money for a fantastic cause, the mental health charity, Mind.

We’ve planned a golf tournament which will run throughout the day as a ‘Texas Scramble Format,’ with twenty teams competing, and then we have an auction, raffle and live music planned in the evening.”

Alex is looking for sponsors to support the event in any way they can as well as any prize donations for the auction.

He recently shared the details of the event at a Welsh Contact Centre Forum board meeting in the hopes of getting more businesses involved and has also received a great response from some unexpected people.

He said: “We’ve had a fantastic response from lots of local organisations who have committed to sponsoring our event as well as support from the likes of Connor Roberts, Joe Rodon, Tyson Fury and Ross Moriarty.

We are anticipating several hundreds of spectators at the event, and it will definitely be a day to remember. Any help towards supporting this cause, would be greatly appreciated.”
