Propel Finance is proud to support the careers of graduates from a range of disciplines and backgrounds. Hasini Rangala was a graduate at University of South Wales when she started a part time role with Propel and she was soon promoted to Senior Graphic Designer.
She shares her story:
Originally from Sri Lanka, I am a Graphic Design Graduate and work at Propel Finance. I recently studied Graphic Communication in Masters level at University of South Wales; and successfully achieved a Distinction grade.
I have been working as part of Propel’s Marketing team for almost 8 months. Towards the end of my Masters course, I was privileged to have received the opportunity to work at Propel as a Part-Time Graphic Designer. I have since successfully managed to secure a full time role at the company as a Senior Graphic Designer.
Being an international employee, and very new to the UK, I must say that I have been very blessed to be a part of Propel – who have welcomed me into their amazing team with open arms.
I have previously had experience working as an In-House Graphic Designer; and what I find different about Propel is that everyone is supportive and cooperative of each other. The output of the work produced from a small Marketing team is incredible. This has given me immense confidence in myself as a Designer; and has helped me to build self-esteem.
Working at Propel has given me the opportunity to work primarily from home, something that I was never previously used to and has allowed me to positively re-adjust my schedule as a Designer. Initially being an introverted Designer, I must say that I find this working approach more productive. I have learnt to manage my workflow better; and I have a more balance in my social life.
Since I didn’t originally have many friends in the UK (a contrast to my social life in Sri Lanka), I had to start life from scratch. I therefore regularly join various socialising groups with people who hold similar interests as me. During my free time I like painting, listening to music, cooking, planting, gym exercising and watching Netflix.
I enjoy travelling a lot, I was brought up in a strict Asian household where travelling for a girl was restricted. Since I have moved to the UK by myself, the freedom to travel is immense and it has been my new found passion to visit cities that I have never been to. It has always been my dream to live in the UK since I was a child.
Now that I have manged to achieve this ambition, my biggest goal is to establish myself and be able to travel in and around this beautiful country. An example of some of the most beautiful landmarks I’ve visited are Pen Y Fan (the highest peak in South Wales at 886 metres) and Sugarloaf Mountain (596 metres high).
